Indian Economy: the syllabus for the economy part contains Economic and social development, sustainable development, poverty, demographics, and social sector initiatives. Apart from NCERT books, two more books are recommended i.e. Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh and Economic Survey of India. Your understanding of basic concepts in Economics is sufficient to answer questions in Prelims but to answer questions in mains you will require an understanding of macroeconomics such as planning, development, employment, government budgeting, etc. You should always start with NCERT books, and then go to Ramesh Singh and finally Economic Survey of India. But interestingly this is the part where you can score well. If you understand you will be able to hit most of the questions related to economics. This part is also important for current affairs. Most of the questions in this part are related to Government intervention in the form of schemes for poverty alleviation, development of rural economy, development of trade, industry and commerce, import substitution and export promotion, and strengthening banking and finance and financial institutions.
